Answers

1.Where can I get e-books for my MiniBook?

The most popular source of e-books is the Internet. You may find a lot of site that supply e-text books in a price or free. Just search the keywords +etext +download +free in your search engine (e.g. www.yahoo.com), to find free e-books. All e-books that in plain text format can be read in MiniBook.

2. How can I download e-books from Internet to my MiniBook?

If the e-book is already in plain text format, you are ready to send the book to MiniBook. You can do this by using MiniBook Partner. MiniBook Partner is a Windows application, which is a freeware. Please read the Readme.txt of the MiniBook Partner.

If the e-book is in other format, you need to convert it to plain text format before you can send it to MiniBook. A popular format is html. If the e-book is in html format, you can convert it to text format by "Save as" it as plain text in your brower.

3. How many languages does MiniBook support?

Currently, MiniBook supports languages in 4 encodings:

  • Western European languages (Latin1 code page). This is the same encoding as your browser's "West European(ISO)" in view->encoding menu.
  • Chinese (GB2312). This is the same encoding as your browser's "Chinese Simplified(GB2312)" in view->encoding menu.
  • Russian (Cyrillic). This is the same encoding as your browser's "Cyrillic(ISO)" in view->encoding menu.
  • Cetral European languages (Latin2). This is the same encoding as your browser's "Central European(ISO)" in view->encoding menu.

A Unicode version of MiniBook is under implementation. When it is ready, you will be able to read most if not all languages in the world with MiniBook.

4. Can I get the menu and messages of MiniBook displayed in other languages?

Yes. You can do so by installing localized resource file of the language. MiniBook integrated English and Chinese resource files. They will be created the first time you run MiniBook. You may be able to download resource file for other languages from third-party web sites. MiniBook site also provides some resource files. Currently available resource files in MiniBook site are German resource file(de.res) and Russian resource file(ru.res). You can install the resource files by using MFSTool and MFSClient. Just copy the resource file to "/MiniBook/Res" folder of your Pocket Viewer. Please read the Readme.txt of these packages for details

5. What is the difference between MiniBook evaluation version and release version?

The evaluation version is offered to users so that they can try MiniBook before decide to buy it. To enable users to try every aspect of MiniBook, we don't disable certain features as other evaluation softwares do. The only limitation is the 30 days evaluation period. At the end of 30 days, if you want to continue evaluating it, you will have to remove the MiniBook folder in your pocket viewer. You can do it by using MFSTool and MFSClient. Please read the Readme.txt of these packages for details.

If you buy MiniBook release version, and install over your evaluate version, you need not remove the MiniBook folder. All books inside the folder are still available in release version.
